(…) is the legitimacy of images possible? After spending a long time taking the issues of “inconoclasm” and “iconolatry” as a source of inspiration for his work, Babis Kandilaptis has begun a new dialogue with images. The artist develops a language of his own from the intrinsic symbols of advertising photography. The symbols are rearranged according to an entirely different economy. Thus, the photographs work on another level, where the ambiguity of their reference points confuses the viewer. Rid of any reference to the consumer world, they are of a confused origin, where pure representation mixes with a sphere of change. It is a parasitic action that leads the artist to use his own space to take over advertising space. Advertising is not a neutral ground, but a place for possible critical and aesthetic reinvestment.
