Photographer and video director, Karine Marenne has turned herself for several years towards video installation and performance. Her work focuses on a questioning of feminity, on men and women relationships and on all these games of power that are specific to human nature. Mixing the codes and creating absurd situations, derision is often her favorite weapon. The choice of her extras (train attendants, dancers, guards, artists) shows her interest for activities that favor human relationships, an interest that reflects itself in the way that she conceives her participative installations. "Museal Fitness" belongs to the project We Love Art, and is the result of a collaboration between two artists who, at first, did not know each other, Roberta Miss and Karine Marenne, for the exhibition A4 at Palais des Beaux-Arts of Brussels. They confronted their points of view and mixed their respective disciplines, in order to make an artistic and relational adventure out of this meeting. As a starting point, a slogan: "I love art". A statement as simple as ambiguous, in the manner of its model "I love New York", which now badly hides behind a candid optimism a social reality that is far from the American dream, unfortunately... Similarly, the apparent naivety of the slogan "I love art" implies a critical approach of the world of art, its rivalries and its commercial logic. (Genaro Marcos)
