Michel François takes part in a number of important exhibitions: Documenta, the Venice Biennial, the Istanbul Biennial, etc. His multiple and complex work integrates all forms of media – photography, sculpture, video and installation – aiming to research anything that touches life in all its guises: life as it develops and comes apart, the interaction between the human, animal, vegetable and mineral worlds of the complementary features of the four elements. The artist never reveals any spectacular aspects; he portrays life in its surprising normality and aims to make visible what usually cannot be seen. The photo acquired by SPACE was taken by Michel François during the eclipse of the sun that occurred in 1999. Like his numerous other photographs that often show games, body parts, landscapes…, it reflects his need to tell a story through images, and, to use one of the author’s expressions, “become one” with all his pictures, sculptures, interventions, objects which are part of a single thought process but have countless ramifications.
