Originally from the world of graffiti, the trio of artists known as Pica Pica has maintained a collective taste for open air adventure and vagrancy thanks to years spent Interrailing. Amongst other things, their imagination is fed by 1980's coming-of-age films featuring groups of children (Stand By Me, The Goonies…) and from the hobo figure (of no fixed abode, travelling illegally by train and surviving off seasonal work), which is recognisable in the drawing and jam jars transformed into cups as part of the Fantasia #1 installation. The result of a commission from SPACE, this display case is their first installation of this kind. With its presentation half way between traditional museum and corner shop aesthetic, it marks the end of a first period of activity characterised by the coexistence of images (photographs and drawings) and reworked everyday objects. Starting out from their training at the Liege Academy of Fine Art, their series of personalised autographed bats materialises friendship. After almost ten years working as a team, Pica Pica has evolved their threedimensional work into more abstract pieces but they still maintain their unique concept of experimentation and fun DIY.
