Since his beginnings in photography, Raphaël Carette has favoured colour shots showing the spectacle that is everyday banality with an approach that is both intimate and discreetly tinged with humour. In particular, we remember his photographic investigation in several cafes in the Brussels-Chappelle station area or in Marchin as part of the collective exhibition Et le Bonheur… (And Happiness) in 2003. Ex-member of the BlowUp collective (2002-2009), he went on several trips, seemingly under the pretext of meeting people. The piece in the SPACE collection was created in Portugal, within the Carlos family, whose way of life he adopted. Setting himself up as the complete opposite of an intrusive photographer, Carette most frequently succeeded in being treated as an equal amongst the group, highlighting the recurrence of various behaviours, whether their origin cultural or due to education.
